SYR Legal team have been advised by Somerset County Council Legal Services that our TG Application has been sent to Leslie Blohm Counsel Chambers in Bristol for legal advice on the complex application. Although it is also thought that there will be no progress until the Pen Mill Town Green Application enquiry findings have reached a conclusion. During this period several other TG applications have been submitted to SCC one of which is the much publicised Henhayes application in Crewkerne

Mean while SYR spokesman Ashley Strelling confirms that SSDC who refuse to drop their objections to the Town Green application saying it will hinder their long term development of the site, despite the full council vote in Jan 09 not to proceed with the Sports Zone development on the rec.

Kate Ashbrook the  General Secretary of The Open Spaces Society says in a letter to the Western Gazette:

The Open Spaces Society is delighted that the majority of South Somerset District Councillors saw sense and rejected the proposals to devastate Yeovil’s Recreation Ground with the Sports Zone complex.

As Britain’s oldest national conservation body, we support communities throughout England and Wales in their attempts to save our threatened green spaces from degradation and development.  Mudford Rec is unusual for its size and for the opportunities it provides for many types of quiet recreation and social activity.  The local campaigners are doing a great job in demonstrating the value of this precious open space to the residents of Yeovil.  We wish there were such effective groups in every community to champion the cause of green spaces.  Such places are too precious to take for granted, we must fight for them all.

We strongly hope that the threat to Yeovil Rec will now go away, so that Yeovil’s community can continue to enjoy it for fresh air and exercise.  The people have spoken, and they must be heard.
